Self-reflection and the puzzle of life: The search for 'Who am I'

Conceptual image of a person gazing into a mirror or puzzle pieces forming a human face, symbolizing self-reflection and the deep philosophical search for identity and the question 'Who am I' in life.

"Who am I?" is a journey of self-realisation and self-introspection,
However, in this journey, one has to proceed with thought and understanding,
In fact, "Who am I" is a deep thought with deep self-introspection,
And only a few great people have been able to discover it.

We went in search of the question "Who am I?",
We searched for the answer in many books,
While searching, we read many books,
We could not find the right answer anywhere.

We started investigating deeply about "Who am I",
While searching, we started going deeper,
In search of the answer to this question, we met many scholars,
We got tired of asking questions, and we tested many scholars.

The search for the question "Who am I?" is a responsibility,
The responsibility of life makes a person unconscious,
People get tired while working,
The search for who I am is a long journey of life.

"Who am I?" is a decision that decides the path ahead.
Understanding who I am is also an achievement,
The pressure of worldly work does not let one thing,
The fruit of the penance of many births makes one realise this.

The moment when souls got separated in this world,
Since then, the solution has not been found,
We have wandered in this world and lost that knowledge,
Without knowledge, how do we know who we are in this world?

Ages have passed here; who will give that knowledge?
It is very difficult to find a truly knowledgeable person; it is not easy.
The knowledgeable person who receives such knowledge of birth and death,
The search for "Who I am" will be complete, completing the soul's identity.

In this world, everyone is a traveller, but has no true destination.
Everyone is wandering from birth to birth; no one is anyone's own.
In the cycle of birth and death, the soul has forgotten its identity,
"Who am I?" It is not easy to understand this in this world.

To understand the reality of who I am, patience, justice and truth are required.
Man forgets this truth in the journey of birth and death,
Doesn't death reveal the question "Who am I?"
And what is death really? The soul continues to change its body.

Searching for "Who am I" is like a struggle,
And in this struggle, who knows how many souls get lost,
And it becomes a feeling that we have lost ourselves,
Searching for who I am again becomes a big challenge.

Looking for who I am is a journey of self-inspection, moment by moment,
That mistake gets us back and forth, where we go into the abyss of darkness,
It is not enough to have knowledge of the world in search of who I am,
This knowledge is full of spiritual knowledge, and to get oneself out of that darkness.

The role of scripture is also important in the search for who I am.
The knowledge hidden in reason scripture also helps in the search for this.
And these are also the first stops in life when we try to understand who we are,
Apart from this, the accompaniment of various scholarly people also helps us to understand who I am.

Although many people remain unaware of this,
And it is very difficult for those people to understand who I am,
Actually understanding who I am is also a self-interview,
And this self-interview is necessary to reach that height.

In this time of "who am I", one has to bear a huge responsibility for oneself,
And it is also a matter of challenge to identify yourself with a lot of work,
I have a lot of questions in this journey of "who am I,
They have to find the answer to all the questions.

This period creates a lot of confusion in the mind,
The main objective of life is to resolve the illusion for all.
Though who I am, what has this life got to do with it? No one can ignore this.
The search for who I am is a very deep and complex subject.

What is self-realisation in life, i.e. self-identity?
Those who have died before us in this world,
Or, where are the famous people who have died on this earth?
Or where are the new people coming into this world coming from?

It is a matter of thinking that we do not want to die, yet death is certain.
We want to live, doesn't the question come to mind?
Is there any place where people never die?
Where there is never any tribulation and strife,
That place defines the definition of happiness.
Certainly, the search for "who I am" points to finding that place.

I have to take care of myself in this journey,
No one knows what guilt and which abyss they will fall into,
Still, the journey to carve itself out and move on,
Do you know when this journey will end?

I want to tell you the meaning of carving myself,
It will be a heart that is full of love,
And is not filled with regret or sorrow in any way.
Being of a high mind completes the journey of "Who I am",
Those who are full of enlightenment, whose consciousness does not disappear.

Who I am is meant to be complete in myself,
One who is freed from all karmic bondage and attains infinite bliss,
All curiosity has to be freed, and it reflects the ultimate goal of life.
What is your goal?
Do you have a question coming to your mind?

At the end of life, the question comes to mind,
Could not do anything, could not find oneself,
Neither can we make a place, nor did we get that immortality.
Life was spent in nonsense,
The regret in the last round of life will never be fulfilled.
Don't waste time, brother,
Identifying is very difficult, understanding life, brother.
"Who am I?" and why did we come into this world?
Understand this, brother. "

1. The Beginning of Self-Introspection:-
The quest of "Who am I?" is not merely a question but a profound journey inward. According to the poem, this journey begins with thought and understanding. Often, people seek success in the external world, but the real challenge lies in knowing oneself. This self-inquiry is so deep that only a few great souls reach its core. The ordinary person becomes so lost in worldly distractions that they relegate their true identity to a secondary place. Thus, the first step on this journey is to awaken and question one's very existence.

2. Bookish Knowledge vs. Experience:-
We often read countless books and debate with scholars in search of truth, but merely accumulating information is not enough. The poem reveals that even after reading many books and examining scholars, the right answer remains elusive. Knowledge remains a burden as long as it exists only in words; only when it transforms into experience does one attain awareness of the "Self." Intellectually knowing something and feeling it in the soul are two entirely different things. The real answer is not hidden in the pages of books but in the silence within oneself.

3. The Pressure of Worldly Responsibilities:-
In life, the weight of responsibilities often renders a person 'unconscious' or unaware. Amid the pressures of work and the complexities of worldly life, humans forget their original purpose. The poem makes it clear that the cycle of actions and the anxiety of earning a livelihood exhaust a person so deeply that they find no time for self-reflection. Worldly duties act like an intoxicant, keeping individuals distant from the profound truth of the present moment. In this noise and chaos, the faint whisper of "Who am I?" gets suppressed, turning life into an endless struggle.

4. The Cycle of Birth and Death and Forgetfulness:-
When the soul descends from the Supreme Consciousness into this world, it forgets its true nature. Due to wandering through many lifetimes, we have lost that primordial knowledge. The poem states that death is merely a change of body, but in this process, we continually lose our identity. This forgetfulness is the root cause of our suffering. Until a philosopher or guru reconnects us with that ancient wisdom, we continue to wander in this cycle. Knowing oneself is the only path to liberation from the cycle of birth and death.

5. The Need for Patience, Justice, and Truth:-
To understand one's true reality, willpower alone is insufficient. This journey demands patience, a commitment to justice, and a walk on the path of truth. Humans often get entangled in the web of falsehood and illusion, denying the truth itself. The process of finding the answer to "Who am I?" resembles a form of spiritual austerity (tapasya), which bears fruit only after the merit of many lifetimes. It requires facing oneself—a struggle no less intense than any other. Without patience, completing this complex and lengthy journey is impossible, for the layers of truth unfold gradually.

6. The Role of Scriptures and Spiritual Company:-
Although bookish knowledge alone is insufficient, scriptures and the company of the wise serve as the "first milestone" on this path. Scriptures provide us with logic and the right direction. The companionship of scholars and enlightened beings helps pull us out of the darkness in which we are submerged. Without spiritual wisdom, worldly intelligence remains incomplete. This sacred company prepares us for self-realisation (literally, "self-interview"), enabling us to touch the heights of life and cut through the webs of illusion hidden within us.

7. Life's Ultimate Goal and Bliss:-
The ultimate outcome of the quest "Who am I?" is the attainment of completeness and infinite bliss. When a person becomes free from all karmic bonds and silences their inner restlessness, they reach their destined goal. This state is the birth of a heart filled with love and free from regret. The awakening of consciousness marks the culmination of this journey. When we fully recognise ourselves, we realise immortality—a state where sorrow and duality no longer exist.

Conclusion:-
The essence of this poem is that human life is not meant merely for worldly tasks and passing time. The question "Who am I?" lies at the very centre of our existence. If, even upon reaching life's final stage, we fail to recognise ourselves, then this entire life will remain a regret. Instead of wasting time on futile activities, we must focus on self-inquiry and spiritual growth. This journey is undoubtedly difficult and challenging, but it is the only path that can liberate us from worldly bonds and lead us toward true happiness, peace, and immortality.
