Standing on the Threshold: A Journey Through Life’s Pain and Resilience

An emotional illustration symbolizing life's struggles and resilience, featuring a lone figure standing at a doorway between darkness and light, ready for transformation.

There was a lot of sorrow in life,
There was very little self-respect in this life,
Sometimes this life was standing on the edge,
Sometimes this life was standing on the threshold.

After all, what was the relationship between whom?
Who used to take care of whom?
Life is such a matter,
Which never gets solved.

Often, people search for what we cannot give,
Often, people search for what we cannot show.
What is the proof of goodness and the evidence that we are good?
Often, people want to see what the colour of the certificate is.

Often, people want to see what is written on that certificate,
Often people say, What kind of a man is that,
Life is such that it was once standing on the threshold.

Centuries passed like this, that day passed like this,
That night passed like this; this life is full of dilemmas.
The matter which was never solved,
The path went astray, and the target was missed,
It was a dark night, and life was sad,
That dawn had come, and I had seen that light.

I was born again, I came back again,
Who had seen me, who had understood me,
This life is full of tests,
Sometimes there is desire, sometimes there is pain.

A journey full of difficulties on the path of life,
Someone was looking at me, someone was laughing,
Someone was yearning, this mind surrounded by questions,
I kept asking question after question.

What was my fault, what was my pride?
This mind, which does not give up easily,
Sometimes, I stood at the threshold.

My life was tainted,
No one understood me,
I was flowing like waves,
Anyone coming was troubling me.

I have played with death many times,
I have been tied in a shroud many times,
How will you suppress me?
I have died many times and returned alive.

I have played with death many times,
I have seen death from very close,
My passion was such that my friend,
I have put life on the shelf with a smile.

The intoxication of defeat could not shake me,
Sorrow could not break me,
Life taught me lessons,
I am like wax for the soft-hearted,
And for the hard-hearted, I am like a stone.

I was not a smiling lamp,
I am not the heir of any big family,
I did not have any status either,
I am an ordinary person.

Everyone has pushed me,
Everyone has despised me,
I am all alone in the journey of life,
Because I am standing on the threshold of life.

I have fought the struggle of life without fear,
I have accepted every challenge of life,
Sometimes defeat, sometimes victory, this is a part of life.
Let alone fear in life, I have even befriended death.

We set out on the tales of life,
Neither did I become a teacher nor a disciple,
The rough roads could not stop me,
If there is passion, then even in sorrow, I beat my chest.

The intoxication of war fills one with passion,
It fills a selfish person with self-respect,
The joy of winning after fighting fills one with happiness,
For me, losing was as equal as winning.

I was deprived of the joys of life,
Was this my sin that I thought well of others?
Life's problems taught me lessons,
Everyone turned their back on me,
No one felt pity for me,
I am defeated from the heart.

I could not gather courage,
Life is full of humiliation,
I am searching for someone in the crowd of millions,
I am searching for someone who can give me a true life.

1. Existential Crisis of Sorrow and Low Self-Esteem:-
Sorrow prevalent in life and lack of self-esteem deeply affect a person. This experience often creates an existential crisis, where one questions one's own worth and purpose. Social humiliation and personal failures weaken confidence. Yet, in overcoming these difficulties, a person recognises their inner strength. Sorrow is not just a challenge but also an opportunity for growth. Self-reflection and positive actions are essential for restoring self-esteem. Accepting this paradoxical nature of life is the path to liberation.

2. Uncertainty of Life on the Edge:-
Life sometimes stands on the shore, sometimes on the edge, symbolising a state of uncertainty and transition. This situation compels a person to make decisions, where one step forward or backward can change life. The edge is a boundary connecting the present and the future. Questions arise in the mind during this state, but these very questions inspire self-discovery. This duality of life makes us flexible. A crisis can become an opportunity with the right perspective. Standing on the edge, we assess our abilities and find new paths.

3. The Complex Web of Unresolved Relationships:-
Questions about relationships in life often remain unanswered. Fundamental questions like who cares for whom and what the connection is torment the mind. These questions reveal life's complexity, where love, duty, and hope are intertwined. Sometimes, leaving them unresolved makes a person feel lonely. Yet, confronting these questions leads to genuine relationships. Life is never fully resolved, but its beauty lies in this incompleteness. Acceptance is the path to peace.

4. Superficiality of Social Evaluation:-
Society often judges a person based on superficial evidence, like the colour of certificates or words written on them. People seek proof of kindness and goodness, even though these qualities are internal. This superficial judgment hides a person's true identity. People ask what kind of person someone is without understanding their heart. This behaviour complicates life further. True evaluation requires looking deeply. External things can never reflectthe inner truth. Truth resides in the heart, not on paper.

5. Friendship with Death: Symbol of Inner Resilience:-
The poet describes playing with death and crossing the boundary between life and death multiple times. This flexibility shows that sorrow and defeat cannot break the person. Life's hardships have taught them to be soft like wax for tender hearts and hard like stone for harsh ones. Loss and victory are integral parts of life. Befriending death is the true victory. This perspective gives depth and meaning to life. Every struggle is a new birth.

6. The Plight of Loneliness in the Crowd and the Search for True Life:-
Feeling lonely in a crowd, the person searches for true life. They feel injustice has been done to them because they thought well of others. Life's ironies discourage them, yet they seek a true companion. This search makes life meaningful. Even in loneliness, a ray of hope shines. True life is where understanding and acceptance exist. This journey is difficult but ultimately rewarding.

Conclusion:-
Through this poem, various aspects of life—sorrow, struggle, uncertainty, resilience, and hope—are illuminated. It shows that life is an unsolved puzzle, where every moment brings a new question and answer. Only the one who plays with death can grasp the true essence of life. Ultimately, this poem teaches us that struggle is the growth path, and a new dawn always follows every dark night. Life's journey becomes meaningful through hope and perseverance.
